THE SHORT VERSION
Start by peeling and sending potatoes into the water. The terminal handles purchases; the journal handles skills. Carrying tools and processing machines solve different parts of the job. The notes below combine the official description, launch hotfix and attributed creator captions.
01 / START AT THE WORKBENCH
ONE POTATO AT A TIME.
Your opening task is straightforward: prepare the potatoes and get them into the water. The game uses physical peeling tools, so the work itself is the central interaction.
- Pick up a potato.
Start with one potato from the supply. The official description presents the opening work as a manual process.
- Peel it by hand.
Use the peeling tool to remove the skin. Thin cuts and limiting waste are part of the game’s stated premise; this guide does not assume a particular key binding or input setting.
- Get it into the water.
Once peeled, put the potato into the water. Repeat that loop as you work through the pile.
Watch the waste, then the pace.
FungalBrainRot's opening run discusses the displayed waste percentage while peeling. Use that feedback to compare your cuts. Our practical starting point: learn to remove the skin with controlled cuts before trying to rush the whole pile.
Gameplay reference: FungalBrainRot, around 3:30 (automatic captions). This is advice for learning the interaction, not a tested income formula or a promised grade threshold.
Need the exact controls? Follow the instructions and control settings shown in your copy of the game. The Steam listing confirms full controller support, but it does not document the individual actions or bindings used here.
Back to guide topicsWORKSTATION NOTES / TOOLS & TRANSPORT
UPGRADE THE JOB YOU ARE DOING.
The terminal offers more than another knife. In the inspected runs, its purchases include blades, carrying upgrades and processing equipment. The objective text often points to the next purchase; check that prompt and the terminal description before spending.
Blades and peelers
Creator captions identify a rusty knife, a steel knife and a later peeler. They change the tool used at the bench. Read the terminal description and compare the next tool with the one you are using.
Terminal & knife purchase 13:30 ↗ · Skoottie (opens in a new tab)Carry capacity and buckets
Carrying improvements address trips between the supply and the bench. The bucket is filled and emptied as a container, rather than replacing the peeling action. It can matter even before you have an automatic machine.
Filling & emptying the bucket 1:23:44 ↗ · Skoottie (opens in a new tab)Sacks and wheelbarrows
Later captions discuss moving larger batches with sacks and a wheelbarrow. These are transport choices. Consider how quickly you can supply the equipment you already own.
Wheelbarrow discussion 2:07:20 ↗ · FungalBrainRot (opens in a new tab)A practical way to decide: notice what repeatedly interrupts you. If most time goes into fetching stock, compare handling upgrades. If potatoes are already waiting at the bench, read the tool or processing options. This is our workflow suggestion, not a measured optimization route.

WORKSTATION NOTES / THE JOURNAL
SKILL POINTS ARE A SEPARATE CHECK.
Buying equipment and spending skill points are different actions. Sonoket and Skoottie both open the journal after ranking up and discuss skill choices. If progress feels slow, check for unspent points as well as an affordable terminal purchase.
- Stamina
- The captions describe a skill affecting stamina drain during peeling and recovery between potatoes.
- Automatic rotation
- A journal option turns the potato while you peel. It changes the hand-peeling setup; it is not the same thing as purchasing a processing machine.
- Steadier handling
- A treatment option is described as reducing hand tremor and drift while peeling. Read its current description rather than assuming every shaky movement is an input fault.
Skill sources & version limits
Caption references: Sonoket, around 7:30 and Skoottie, around 16:02. Skill names and effects come from automatic captions; exact level values and a recommended build have not been independently tested.
02 / THINK BEYOND THE NEXT POTATO
FROM HAND TO MACHINE.
Crank: you operate the mechanism. Automatic: equipment takes over more peeling. Collecting and loading still need separate attention.
| Stage | What changes | What to check next |
|---|---|---|
| Hand peeling | You work directly on each potato. | Cutting feedback, tool choice and journal skills. |
| Crank peeler | A hand-cranked machine handles processing. | Its operating instruction and loading method. Crank-operated peeler 1:53:49 ↗ · Skoottie (opens in a new tab) |
| Automatic peeler | Later equipment takes over more of the repeated peeling. | Whether collecting and delivering potatoes has become the slower task. Automatic peeler discussion 2:14:20 ↗ · FungalBrainRot (opens in a new tab) |
Progression overview, sources & limits
The bigger picture is an increasingly efficient operation. The developer describes a move from manual work to bulk collection and machine processing, with more of the repeated work becoming automated.
Pick up, peel and put the potatoes into water.
Better tools and bulk collection expand the operation.
Machine processing takes over more repetitive work.
The creator runs add a useful distinction: a crank-operated peeler appears before later automatic peeling equipment. Owning a machine does not mean every part of collecting, loading and processing is already hands-free.
For a checkpoint, read along with Skoottie's crank-machine discussion at 1:53:49, then FungalBrainRot's automatic-peeler discussion at 2:14:20. These are caption reference points in individual runs, not target times for reaching an upgrade.
Keep the distinction clear: the overall move toward bulk processing is official. The named equipment notes are supported by creator captions. A fastest route, exact costs and unlock prerequisites still need current-build testing.
OFFICIAL UPDATE / HOTFIX 1.0.1
WHAT IS GETTING IN YOUR WAY?
These actions come from the developer's November 3 hotfix 1.0.1 notes. Check your installed version when comparing behavior.
Character, wheelbarrow or sack stuck?
- Pause the game. Follow the pause-menu link to Troubleshooting.
- Choose the matching recovery option: Unstuck, Wheelbarrow or Sack. Use Repile for the potato pile.
- Allow for the cooldown. The patch lists 60 seconds for these recovery actions.
Movement or mouse direction is unexpected
The patch addresses movement issues associated with wheels, pedals, flight sticks or virtual joystick drivers. Compare any connected devices with that fix.
Invert Y now affects the camera only. Peeling, letters and other cursor-like interactions follow the mouse or stick normally.
Hand shake makes peeling uncomfortable
Check the separate hand-shake-intensity option in Settings, added in 1.0.1. For the journal's handling and stamina options, see the skill notes.
Menus or objectives appear blank
If game data fails to load, the update displays a warning asking you to verify game files through Steam. Follow that warning if it appears; the note does not diagnose every blank screen.
